Hands-Only CPR
We need your help to improve survival from sudden cardiac arrest in our community. In a sudden cardiac arrest, every minute that passes without CPR results in a 7-10% decrease in chance of survival. Community responders are the first link in the cardiac chain of survival.
YOU ARE THE FIRST LINK IN THE SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST CHAIN OF SURVIVAL!
If you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse:
1. Recognize a sudden cardiac arrest and call 911.
2. Perform hands-only CPR til help arrives.

- Recognize that gasping is not breathing, start CPR!
- Put your phone on "speakerphone" so you can talk with the dispatcher while you perform hands-only CPR.
- Don't worry, you won't hurt someone. You may hear a cracking sound when you start compressions. That is OK. They need hard and fast compressions.
- Remember to push hard (two inches deep) and fast (100 times/minute) in the center of the chest, allow the chest to fully recoil (don't lean on the chest) and don't stop until someone physically takes over for you.
- If other people are around: Point to someone and tell them to call 911 and point to someone else and tell them to find an AED, one may be nearby. AEDs are found in several public places and most provide verbal instructions.
- You DO NOT need a CPR card to save a life! Laypersons are protected by good samaritan laws. Step up and take action!
