Congressman Shimkus visits GFPD |

United States Congressman John Shimkus visited GFPD Station #1 today to present the district with a check for $41,800 from the 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The funds will be used to purchase automatic emergency generators for both stations. Firefighters displayed equipment purchased through the AFG program from past years. Since 2002, GFPD has received over $340,500 in federal grant assistance. The grants have provided the district with an array of modern equipment to include 23 new SCBAs, 2 thermal imaging cameras, car extrication and stabilization equipment, breathing air equipment, and fire prevention materials.
