GFPD is an ISO rated 4/9 combination department employing 16 full time and 27 paid on call staff. The district proudly protects 36 square miles and 17,000 people. We operate out of two stations and have a variety of apparatus to provide first class fire protection and emergency medical services. Congressman Shimkus visits GFPD |

United States Congressman John Shimkus visited GFPD Station #1 today to present the district with a check for $41,800 from the 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The funds will be used to purchase automatic emergency generators for both stations. Firefighters displayed equipment purchased through the AFG program from past years. Since 2002, GFPD has received over $340,500 in federal grant assistance. The grants have provided the district with an array of modern equipment to include 23 new SCBAs, 2 thermal imaging cameras, car extrication and stabilization equipment, breathing air equipment, and fire prevention materials. FEMA Grant: Congressman Shimkus announced Friday morning November 28th that Godfrey Fire Protection District has been awarded a grant for $41,800 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This is 95% of the total cost of purchasing and installing two new automatic, station generators. Station #1 will be getting a 60kW generator and Station #2 will get a 45kW generator. Total cost of the project = $44,000. This grant was attained thanks to the efforts of Asst. Chief Steve Kasten and Firefighter Erik Kambarian. Thanks to both Steve and Erik! Fireman's Fund Insurance Company: Firefighter Scott Haegele's wife Holly applied for a grant through her employer, Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. The Company announced a grant of $6,266.00 has been awarded to GFPD for the purchase of new Automated External Defibrillators (AED). Thanks to Holly and Scott! Illinois Public Risk Fund: GFPD has been awarded $5,500.00 for the purchase of safety and education equipment for the department. Exactly what will be purchased has yet to be determined. Ameren UE: Ameren announced a grant of $2,000.00 has been awarded to GFPD for the purchase of two new training mannequins and assorted training equipment. This grant was awarded thanks to the efforts of Firefighter Mike Mikoff. He contacted an Ameren representative and advised of our district's needs. This resulted in the grant award. Thanks Mike! |
